Alpha Poly Improves Press Capacity with Flexo Plate Demounter

After purchasing a W&H press, leading packaging solutions provider Alpha Poly was poised to take advantage of increased demand for its packaging services. However, with two presses running side by side, the company’s mounting department faced challenges keeping up with press capacity.

Alpha Poly is a family-owned and operated business serving customers in Canada, the USA, and internationally. Over the past 25 years, the company has become a leading solutions provider in popular flexible packaging categories, including CPG, Food Service, Pet Care, and Packer-Processor industries.

The Need for a Flexo Plate Demounter

“We needed to address a bottleneck in our mounting department and keep our skilled personnel focused on what they do best – mounting flexo plates,” said Glenn Correa, Prepress Manager for Alpha Poly. After analyzing the situation, Glenn realized that implementing a flexo plate demounter would automate the plate removal process, saving time and allowing highly skilled personnel to focus on more critical tasks. A flexo plate demounter is a machine designed to efficiently remove plates and tape from sleeves and cylinders without damaging them, thus preserving the reusability of flexo plates.

Evaluating Flexo Plate Demounter Options

Alpha Poly began a detailed evaluation to find the best flexo plate demounter to fit their needs. They considered several companies offering demounters, both domestic and international. Just three weeks after A&V installed the flexo plate demounter, Alpha Poly is already seeing improved performance. “Installation went smoothly and was essentially plug-and-play. Training was minimal since the demounter is so user-friendly. Anyone can operate the machine after removing a few plates,” Glenn noted.

Benefits of the Flexo Plate Demounter

Alpha Poly also anticipates that the new flexo plate demounter will save money by minimizing plate damage through the automation of the plate removal process. Damage often occurs when flexo plates are removed from the sleeve after the printing process. This damage can result from tearing the plate or creasing the Mylar backing while removing the plate from the cylinder or sleeve. In fact, more plates are replaced due to damage during the removal process than from general wear and tear.
